Domaine Batard Langelier

The family domaine is located in Maisdon-sur-Sèvre, in the heart of the Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine appellation, and was established in 1910. It now spans 24 hectares and 95% of its production is Melon de Bourgogne, the only grape variety in Muscadet.

Domaine Batard Langelier Jérémie Batard

Jérémie Batard

Jérémie Batard is the son of a winemaker, his father’s expertise was his heritage. But it wasn’t written in the stars. In his younger days, Jérémie dreamt of faraway places, a distant land where everything would be better. He loved wine, but working the land seemed too difficult, too dull. So he packed his bags and travelled far beyond his family vineyards, moving further and further away to discover France, then Europe. His journeys took him as far as Australia, and his love of wine always went with him.

And then one day in 2009 ...

everything fell into place; Jérémie’s homeland caught up with him and it became clear that he would be a winemaker! He would join his parents Pascal and Régine Batard, who had been growers and producers for 30 years in their vineyards near Nantes. The work he had thought so difficult became necessary, and took on its full meaning

Domaine Batard Langelier Claire Langelier

Claire Langelier

Claire Langelier, who came from elsewhere, fell in love with the region, its wines, and with Jérémie. She has been working at the domaine since 2013, in the vineyards, in the cellars and in the business. She contributes whatever she can. From her perspective as an “outsider”, uninfluenced by the history of the vineyard, she can see that the Muscadet must bring itself out of the pigeonhole in which it has been placed.
